"There is something really quite different about her paintings.

I think it's her sense of color and how one image works so well with another. They just naturally relate...not passively but with an energy that's present with each brush stroke. There is more to it than that. Her paintings tap into the senses and transport the viewer beyond the present and into a familiar timeless place. A place that you forgot existed. She brings an energy and life to her paintings that words cannot convey.

I never tire from the experience."

"Thank you for the exhibition of your forty-two paintings. It was an excellent show, because it was the work of true artistic inner experience. The 'luminescent ' effect is not merely a part of the medium, but it becomes a part of your artistic abstration of the subject."

Clemens de Baillou
Director - The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art

"Mrs. Andruk seems to be a keen observer. What is more important, she manages very neatly to convey the quality or, if you please, the 'feel' of Mexico"

The Artists Register

Marjorie Dean Andruk, a painter in oils and acrylics, describes her current paintings as "color structures dealing with soft luminosity." Her technique is to begin with a wash and on it to capture a mood in a concrete form which she refines, develops, and then obliterates. Sdeesctornodyaerd , froerimnsfo arcrein dge voer loc Kae ndg ainndg the mood of the piece as she seeks unity. One must, she states, "destroy continuously the sculptural veracity and entrapping identity of form, wait for the unity, and have faith it will occur."

Andruk was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and has lived in Wilmington for four years. She received a B.A from the Maryland Institute and a M.F.A. from the University of South Carolina. She attended the Eastman School of Photography, the Belleaire Art Center in Clearwater, Florida; and pursued advanced studies at the Institute Allende, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She has taught drawing and painting at the University of South Carolina and the Gertrude Herbert Art Institute in Augusta, Georgia; and conducted seminars in Georgia, San Miguel, and Maracaibo, Venezuela.

She has exhibited at the Grand Gallery, the Rehoboth Art League, the Hotel DuPont, the Wilmington Library, WareGallery, the University of Delaware, and the Chester County Art Association. She spent the summer of 1980 painting in San Miguel de Allende and exhibited there at the Casa Carmen.

Andruk feels that, "Originality in painting depends on originality of eye and thought. I feel that there must always be a continual searching for original solutions to problems of expression. My art remains an expression or an attempt to express intimate reflections about the nature of things, a direct attempt with no apologies."
